Liverpool wins the UEFA super cup for the fourth time.
14th August, 2019: Liverpool won their fourth UEFA super cup title defeating current UEFA Europa League winner Chelsea 2-2 (5-2) on penalties.
It was Oliver Giroud of Chelsea who broke the silence of the stadium by scoring before half time. His goal was then canceled by the brace of Sadio Mane and it was Liverpool leading once again until Tammy Abraham was fouled by Liverpool keeper Adrian. The score was leveled at 101th minute through penalty.
After both the additional time and injury time, it was time for penalties. All fingers were crossed because a week ago, Liverpool lost to Manchester City in penalties in the FA community shield. Liverpool were scared to not repeat the history again.
Liverpool then went on to win the cup when Adrian saved the penalty of Tammy Abraham. It was an outstanding night for the Liverpool goalkeeper as he had just joined the European champions on August 4th and within a fortnight, he was instrumental in winning the UEFA super cup.
The crowd along with the Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp hailed the Liverpool hero for his heroic performance as the main choice keeper, Alisson Becker is out of action because of calf injury. Adrian is expected to be the first choice keeper until Alisson is fit again.
